The International Conference on English Studies in Indonesia (ICONESIA) is a premier biennial event organized by the English Studies Association in Indonesia (ESAI). Since its inception, ICONESIA has brought together English lecturers, scholars, and practitioners to share their research, spark meaningful discussions, and strengthen connections within the vibrant English studies community across Indonesia. Held alongside ESAI's national congress, the conference encourages collaboration and unity among its members.
ICONESIA has a proud tradition of exploring themes that capture the evolving nature of English studies. In 2019, Universitas Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta hosted the inaugural ICONESIA under the theme "Towards the Future: Celebrating Cultural Differences," covering a broad range of disciplines from linguistics to cultural studies. The second edition in 2021, held at Universitas Trunojoyo Madura, focused on "Current Trends in Linguistics, Literature, and Cultural Studies," and welcomed diverse voices from across the field. In 2023, Universitas Bangka Belitung organized the third ICONESIA around the timely theme "English Studies for Sustainable Development," highlighting the field's role in supporting sustainability and global well-being.
In 2025, ICONESIA returns for its fourth edition with renewed energy and a strong commitment to advancing English studies. Featuring an exciting lineup of renowned keynote and plenary speakers—Prof. Ian Buchanan (University of Wollongong, Australia), Prof. Dr. Jessie Barrot (National University, Manila, Philippines), Prof. Dr. I Ketut Artawa (Universitas Udayana, Indonesia), Dr. Ovidiu Matiu (Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, Romania), Associate Prof. Dr. Sharmini Abdullah (Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Malaysia), and Associate Prof. Dr. Tri Pramesti (Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Surabaya, Indonesia)—ICONESIA 2025 promises to be a vibrant hub of ideas, innovation, and collaboration. Join us to exchange insights, explore new frontiers in English studies, and help shape the future of the discipline both in Indonesia and on the world stage!
